PROFESSIONAL THERAPY
A non-invasive method to improve skin texture
There has been significant interest in non-invasive methods to effectively improve skin texture without patient downtime. The ablative lasers are able to achieve these results thanks to a light procedure which allows dermal damage to be controlled. Wound healing leads to skin remodeling and a reduction in superficial wrinkles, skin toning and the removal of pigmented spots in the epidermis.
Erbium and CO2 lasers have been used as an effective instrument in skin resurfacing for many years. They are more precise and effective than chemical peels when it comes to removing the top layers of the skin, which causes smooth new skin to form and collagen to be renewed. The special MicroSpot technology reduces the wound healing to just a few days. This so-called ablative, fractional laser therapy treats only “fractions” of the tissue in the form of a grid.

This is made possible by splitting the laser beam into several hundred partial rays. This triggers skin renewal and collagen formation with rapid wound healing, which is supported by the untreated skin and therefore involves a very low risk of side effects. Wrinkles and scars are effectively reduced. Pore size is decreased and the skin’s pigmentation becomes more even, which also helps to improve the appearance of the skin. The signs of the treatment are practically invisible by three to seven days afterwards. Even one session will lead to remarkable results; for marked lines or scars, additional treatment sessions can follow after several weeks.
Skin rejuvenation with diode laser
Nowadays anti-ageing treatments constitute roughly 50 % of all aesthetic treatments. While folds can be easily alleviated with the help of fillers, botulinum toxin or ablative lasers, there is a multitude of dermatological problems – for example, pigment disorders, sun damage, acne, or coarse-pored skin – which adversely affect the complexion. These situations call for a procedure that allow an extensive and in-depth rejuvenation of the skin. Although in the past chemical peelings were recommended for skin rejuvenation and antibiotics or antiseptics for acne treatment, nowadays laser and infrared technology is tried and tested.
The MeDioStar® offers both possibilities. The laser handpieces allow for the epidermis to be warmed up with a wavelength of 810 nm, which stimulates the production of collagen, which in turn increases metabolic processes and improves the skin’s complexion. The same principle is applied to the infrared technology on the KOBRA handpiece (soon to be available as a module upgrade). The practitioners can select their preferred technology and thus are more flexible in treating the needs of the patient.
Lighten skin tone and provide an even skin complexion
The desire to restore luminosity, youth and tightness to the skin is on the rise everywhere, increasing in practically every part of the world. The MeDioStar Family also allows a non-invasive solution for skin whitening, especially for Asian skin. The high power diode laser is able to achieve these results, thanks to a light procedure which allows thermal dermal damage to be controlled, leading to subsequent collagen remodeling while preserving the epidermis. Skin whitening with the laser destroys the melanin in the skin, which leads to a whitening of the skin and no tanning occurring even after sun exposure.
A strong impulse of light is applied to the area to be treated and is absorbed by melanin, while the skin surface is cooled by a contact handpiece. The damaged melanin is reabsorbed by the lymphatic system, and the fibroblasts in the skin are stimulated to rebuild new collagen and elastin. New collagen and elastin leads to a tightening of the skin, improvement in skin appearance and pores and a more youthful look.
What kind of skin lesions can be treated?
The Erbium and CO2 lasers can safely and effectively remove the following lesions:
• Becker naevi
• Naevi spili
• Epidermal naevi
• Xanthelasma
• Syringomas
• Sebaceous adenoma
• Milia palpebrarum
• Actinic keratosis
• Seborrheic keratosis
• Favre–Racouchot syndrome
• Lentigines
• Café-au-lait spots
Is laser treatment safe?
Laser devices have been utilized in cosmetic surgery for over twenty years, demonstrating a high degree of reliability and effectiveness when used by qualified specialists on carefully-selected patients. Lasers have taken over from the old traditional alternatives such as chemical peeling and dermo-abrasion, where the depth of action cannot be controlled and are more painful and uncomfortable for the patient.
How many sessions are necessary?
One single treatment is normally enough to remove superficial lesions. Depending on the depth and size of the lesion, more sessions may be needed.
How long is the healing time?
The recovery time is usually very short. During the first 48 hours, there may be a sensation of heat or burning similar to sunstroke – discomfort that will vanish thanks to the use of creams indicated by the physician. For 10-15 days afterwards, the skin will have a smooth appearance with a reddish color that can easily be covered with light makeup and without affecting your daily activities or social life.
What are the post-treatment instructions to be followed?
During the first 48 hours, moisturizing antibiotic and anti-inflammatory creams can be applied. The use of vaseline-based preparations is also recommended for eight days after the operation in order to prevent the formation of unsightly scabs. Following this, it will still be necessary to protect your skin from the sun’s rays for about two months.
Is the treatment painful?
The treatment is not painful and is well-tolerated by the patient. A local anaesthetic may be used for particularly sensitive areas.
Are there any undesirable side effects?
There may be some unsightly dark marks, which always disappear within a few weeks, either on their own or by following your physician’s instructions.
What results are achieved?
Many lesions can be easily removed without the formation of scars. After laser therapy, the skin will be tighter, smoother and more polished.
